How to determine what skin type you are?

Many people find it hard to determine what type of skin type they have. Our skin can change, so you may need to adapt to what products you use as your skin changes.

There are five skin types which you could be:  Oily, Dry, Combination, Normal or Sensitive

Oily skin tends to get shiny and is prone to blackheads and blemishes. Pores tend to be enlarged.

Dry skin feels tight, especially after cleansing. You experience flaking, redness, dullness and have a tendancy to fine wrinkles.

Combination skin is when you have dryness on the cheeks, whilst being oily in the t-zone. This is a common skin type.

Normal skin does not feel dry or oily. It feels smooth and good and is less problematic.

Sensitive skin tends to be thin, delicate, dry and easily gets irritated, red or itchy.

There is a skin test you can take to help you determine what skin type you are. You do this by washing your face, pat dry it and then after at least 30-60 minutes take a few pieces of rice paper ( or thin tissue paper) and press it on different spots on your face. If your skin is oily the paper will stick and become translucent. If the paper doesn't stick or pick up oily spots then your skin is dry. Test it out on your t-zone, which is forehead, nose and chin and see what results you get there too. ( If they are oily, but your cheeks are dry then you have combination)

Your skin type is genetic, but your skin also depends on how you eat and how you take care of your skin.

Once you determine what type of skin type you are - you can buy products that are for your skin type which will make a big difference to your skin appearance. Consistent skincare is important to looking after your skin. Cleanse, moisturise and use a scrub and mask at least one to two times a week.

Do you know what your skin type is?
