Bakers Delight - my cooking experience & insight on baking hot cross buns

I love buying my bread from Bakers Delight. Its so fresh, there is a great variety and best of all it tastes great.

I was invited to cover a baking event at Bakers Delight, how exciting! I got to experience first hand what its like to bake from scratch fresh hot cross buns. The choc chip flavour. Yummy!!
Let me show you how its done! First of all I put on the uniform provided so I was a true Bakers Delight baker. ( well not really but I pretended!)
Daniel the franchisee of the store is a fantastic baker with over seventeen years experience. He talked me through the process whilst showing me how its all done. First the big mixing bowl where the dough and choc chips were mixed together.
Photobucket

Its important that the right amount of ingredients go in and that the temperature is checked. Once its right the dough is ready. Now its time to place the dough on a tray and have it cut into the right round hot cross bun pieces. Once we did that we placed the tray with the dough on it, into the cutting machine.
Photobucket

This machine cuts the hot cross buns in the perfect round shape.
Photobucket

Now its time for the hot cross buns to be lined up on the baking try and have their chocolate crosses placed on them. Once this was done into the big oven they went for twenty minutes.
Photobucket

As they were coming out of the oven they smelt delicious. Once they came out we glazed them and then they were ready to eat. Yummy!!
Photobucket
My kids enjoyed eating the hot cross buns. My kids couldn't believe I baked them - well actually Daniel the real Bakers Delight baker did all of the cooking, but I did help. Here is the video if you would like to see how it was all done.

Thanks so much to Bakers Delight for giving me a insight and first hand experience into how the most delicious hot cross buns are made.

Make sure you pick up some yummy hot cross buns the next time your at Bakers Delight. You will love them!

Max Factor Lipfinity review

lip balm and the lip colour 191 bronzed
Longer lasting lipstick is something a lot of us look for in a lipstick. Now there are some great products that will allow the lipstick/lipstain stay on all day. I bought the Max Factor Lipfinity in number 191 called 'bronzed' a few months ago.

Max Factor say:  Up to 12 hour ultra long lasting lipstick. A lipstick that stays in place all day and doesn’t lose its ‛just applied look’! No other lip colour has the staying power of Lipfinity, an ultra long lasting and vibrant lip duo that together create a smooth, sheer finish for up to 12 hours! With semi permanent colour and a shine boosting, moisturising topcoat there’s no need to reapply, even after eating and drinking throughout your day – no matter how long it is, your lipstick’s still on!

There are two tubes in the packet, a lip balm and the lipstick colour. First step is to apply the lip colour which will stain the lips and then let it dry for a minute. Don't close your mouth, keep the lips apart. It dries on the lips pretty quickly, then you apply the clear lip balm as a top coat. You keep the lip balm with you and reapply when needed throughout the day.

The lip colour feels like a lipstick, easy to apply. Once its dried, my lips felt dry and I definitely needed some moisture in the lips which is what the lip balm provided.

The staying power on the Lipfinity is fantastic. I ate and drank and it stayed put. After about four hours I felt that my lips were dry, but the colour was still on my lips and looked good,  so I applied the lip balm and that was fine.

After about eight hours I did feel that the colour was wearing off a little in the middle of my lips, nothing too bad though. After the twelve hours you could see the wrinkling and wearing off of the colour.

Overall the Max Factor Lipfinity did work and has good all day staying power, however it does dry the lips out and you can tell straight away because the lips start tightening and feeling cracked. I guess this is expected though as it is staining the lips so the colour stays on all day. Once you reapply the lip balm they feel moisturised and good again. I reapply the top coat lip balm about four times in a twelve hour period.

I'm going to try a few of the other 'longer' lasting lipstick from loreal and covergirl to see how they compare.

Have you tried this? Have you tried a long lasting lipstick/lipstain, what did you think?

How to cheer yourself up when your feeling sad?

We all have those days. Those days where you feel sad or like nothing is right. You have plans and dreams but they are not happening. You have ideas and thoughts of what you want to achieve but you don't know where to start or how to go about making things happen.

I usually take a break and give myself a few days to recharge. I refer to my list of things that cheer me up and give me the motivation to keep on going. There are many things but I have narrowed it down to five things for this list. So here is my list:

1. Planning to go on holidays - always brings a smile. I just think about previous holidays we've had or upcoming ones and how it will be a few days of relaxation. Searching holiday destinations and what we can do is always a great way to feel good.

2. Butterflies and Rainbows- I love butterflies, they are so pretty, colorful and peaceful. I have a book on butterflies and love reading it and flicking through the pictures. I also love rainbows, the colours are gorgeous and its nature at its best.

3. Shopping -  I usually set aside some retail therapy time because there is always something I need to buy or can buy to cheer me up, for example a book, flowers, candles, beauty products.

4. Music - Put on some music and dance. Try it, trust me it works. You will feel free and immersed in the music, and you may just find that you have great dancing moves.

5. Do something positive - how you think definitely affects how we feel, so thinking positive is definitely going to help. Do something positive, bake a cake, clean out a room, do some gardening, play with your children, read a book - whatever you do make sure it is done with positive thoughts.

Remember no matter how unhappy you feel, you have a choice to make the most of the situation and do something about cheering yourself up. Choose to get through the day happily.

So tell me whats one thing that cheers you up?

uDraw - Interview with parenting expert Justin Coulson on kids and games

Kids love playing games. The uDraw game tablet is a new game system, the first to encourage creative expression and imagination. The tablet is a revolutionary game system that allows players to draw images using a pressure sensitive stylus. Sounds great! I was able to ask parenting expert, Justin Coulson who has come on board for the launch of the uDraw a few questions about kids and games.

Q1. What are the good things kids get out of playing video games?
Kids (and grown-ups) find video games stimulating. Games also offer a sense of ‘down-time’ and recreation. These things can be good if used at appropriate levels, and this is the great challenge that parents face. Some games offer greater benefits than others such as opportunities for positive social interaction, and creativity. (And some offer little or no benefit at all beyond sensory stimulation). Therefore it is up to parents to work with their children to ensure that the games that they play offer useful ways to spend time, and provide benefits that are consistent with the individual family’s values.

Q2. What should parents know about gaming and kids?
Parents should know that kids love gaming, and that their children will want to be involved. They should also be aware that the games their children play can impact on their children’s personality and behaviour for better or for worse. Thus their involvement in the choices their children make in relation to playing video games is essential.

Parents should be involved in the choices their children make in relation to playing video games. There are a couple of key things every parent should consider:

1. Discuss your concerns about video game use. Ask your child how much time s/he thinks is appropriate to allocate to this activity and work together to ensure that this limit is adhered to. Describe the research evidence and what it means to your child. Ask questions of your child related to how they feel when they play video games, and how the rest of their lives (and your household) function.

By making this a ‘democratic’ discussion you will find that your child will typically be insightful, demonstrate awareness of the impact of gaming, and will develop sensible guidelines with you related to game time. As you discuss appropriate lengths of time for gaming, you will find that your child will be more likely to stick with the agreed to time. Arguments and power struggles will be less likely because s/he has committed to your family policy.

2. Be involved in decisions about what types of games are played. Encourage games that are played in your home are consistent with your family values. Again, invite your child to reflect on how game habits fit within your family. Games that require positive social interaction are best, as are games that increase mindfulness.

This is a strength of a product like the uDraw in that it facilitates creativity and imagination. Children listen to music that is soothing and fosters positive feelings, while they craft, invent, and develop original ideas through art.

Alternatively, they can play a game like Pictionary which revolves around positive social interaction with peers, parents, and siblings. It requires cognitive skills, imaginative thinking, and creativity and combines the use of these processes with in-person interaction. People smile, talk, and have fun while playing this game. This is why I am willing to endorse such a product. It’s aligned with positive cognitive behaviours, and positive social interactions.

3. Play with them. Parents are too busy to play games with their kids, right? Perhaps, but perhaps not. By turning game time into family time your children are more likely to adhere to your standards in terms of both time on gaming and also the types of games played. You are able to model appropriate use of these technologies by playing with them, and show them how to apply appropriate limits. This technology is here to stay and it is up to us as parents to work with our children in developing appropriate responses to its use. By discussing issues with them, being involved in choosing appropriate activities, and even participating with them, you will find that the games issue becomes less divisive and more unifying for your family.

Q3. Can gaming affect children's behaviour?
Gaming can affect children’s behaviour – for better or for worse. This is one of the key reasons that parents need to be informed, and actively engaged in working with their children to determine the most appropriate games to play, the most appropriate amount of time that should be spent, and alternative activities for children to keep them busy. I suggest the following:

1. Keep televisions and computers (and hand-held devices) out of children’s bedrooms. This is for safety and for life-balance.
2. Agree on what is appropriate usage of technology including amount of time and place of use
3. Agree on consequences of inappropriate use of technology
4. Be involved – all the time. Make decisions collaboratively and in an informed way, and be familiar with the games your children are playing. When they want a new game, play it or watch it at someone else’s house first. Research it with your child online and become familiar with it’s benefits or drawbacks.
5. Remember, some technologies are fine in moderation. Encourage your children to be involved in positive technologies.

Q4. My seven year old would love to play his games all day everyday! What are reasonable limits to set for kids?
Researchers strongly advise that children under two should not spend time in front of the television. From ages 2 to 5 approximately thirty minutes per day is seen as suitable, and up to an hour is appropriate for school-aged children. As teens, two hours of screen time per day would typically be sufficient.
These limits/guidelines may or may not work in your family. If they are unsuitable for any reason, it is up to you as a parent to determine what will work best for your family while maintaining an awareness that going beyond these limits can be detrimental to healthy child development.

Q5. How is the uDraw different to video games?
There are two key reasons that made me feel positively towards the uDraw. The uDraw is a game that offers the potential for promoting positive social interaction for all participants, particularly if you’re playing Pictionary. If children can be involved in a game that promotes and fosters positive relationships then they will experience benefits. uDraw offers this, as well as the potential for cooperation, collaboration, and prosocial behaviour generally.

Additionally, I see uDraw as promoting mindfulness, creativity, and a learning/mastery orientation towards the drawing/creation process. With uDraw there is no reason for a player to ‘react’ to what the game requires, because the studio is not really a game. It’s an art experience. The ‘player’ is really an artist and mindfully chooses how to create, organise, craft, and conceive and implement ideas. In this way cognitive powers are being used and cognitive skills are being developed.
Oh, and I LOVE the music. It is almost meditative and brings a peaceful feeling into the home as your child draws, creates, and uses his/her imagination.

Thankyou so much Justin for this interview and for your great advice. Justin Coulson is a renowned parenting educator and the Director of Training Organisation at Happy Families.

Do your children love playing their games? Do you have rules as to how much they can play?

TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo Review

When I saw the TRESemme Fresh Start dry shampoo on sale I thought I'd give it a try. I have seen mixed reviews on this product, depending on your hair type it seems to work different for everyone.

I usually like to wash my hair everyday because I have oily roots and generally dry hair ( due to colouring) and by the second day you can tell that I need to wash my hair. I try not to though as I also don't like to strip my hair of its natural oils. So a dry shampoo sounds great to use.

The TRESemme Fresh Start dry shampoo is the first one I have used and I like it. The way this product works is the formula has mineral clay that soaks up excess oil and impurities to leave your hair looking refreshed. It also contains citrus extracts to neutralize odor and enhance your hair to feel clean gives it added body and bounce. The spray has a nice subtle citrus smell.

Its easy to use, it comes in a can with a spray nozzle.

To use it you need to give the can a good shake before using it and then spray the roots of your hair evenly holding the can 30-40cms away from your head. I spray it in short sprays and shake the can in between sprays. You then leave it in for 1-2 minutes to allow the hair to soak up the oil. I then use my fingers to rough it up and then brush my hair and style it. Once you use it a few times you will find the best technique.

For me it works really well and gives my hair some volume if styled. A few times it left a white residue on my hair, but I found that was because I was spraying too close and didn't wait long enough 1-2 minutes before brushing and styling. Other than that it did its job. My hair looks decent and saves me washing it everyday.

The TRESemme Fresh Start dry shampoo retails for around $11 aud and can be purchased from Priceline or department stores.

Have you used a dry shampoo? Do you like it?

Bullying has to stop, it is not right.

Please note this blog post is my thoughts, views and opinions on bullying. If you don't agree with it then please exit out of this view now. I am purely expressing myself.

Bullying is not ok. Bullying is awful. Bullying is treating someone like they are nothing. Bullying is not right. Bullying is crossing the boundaries. Bullying is overpowering others.

It makes me mad and frustrated when I hear about bullying. Bullying is so personal and can create issues for the victim that are going to stick with them for the rest of their lives. Bullying needs to be addressed immediately and stopped. I'm sure everyone has seen the recent case of bullying that was caught on tape and shows how the victim stands up for himself.

He is a hero for being able to stand up and show the bully that he is a human being and doesn't deserve to be treated like that. No one deserves to be treated like that. Bullies need to stop. We are all human and yes we all look different, act different, dress different. That doesn't mean that we deserve to be bullied.

When my son tells me about the times where he has been picked on, or tripped or hit, I ask him why he doesn't stand up for himself. His response is 'Mummy I'm scared, they might hurt me even more so I just wait till I feel better and run away from them'.

How sad is that? Why do children feel that it is ok to make another child feel hurt? Why do children want to see others in pain? Why does being different mean you are a target for being bullied?

It has to stop and it begins with parents responsibility to teach their children that its ok to be different, and that you don't go around hurting others because you don't like them or because they are different.
It has to be addressed at school, when a child lets a teacher know that they are being hurt, teachers need to take this seriously and address it immediately.
We all need to talk and communicate with our children and address any issues they may have. Don't ignore them.

Bullying is a national problem and happens everyday. Our children need to feel safe and know that they are beautiful, a great individual and that is ok to be themselves.

Whether you have been bullied at school, in the workplace, or at home- its not right, stand up for yourself. You are worth it.

Want to treat your blemishes? Burts Bees anti blemish review

Blemishes are something that I deal with every few weeks. There are times when my face is great and clear and then there are days when I get blemishes, acne, pimples around my chin area mainly. A post that I wrote about salicylic acid was to let you know what salicylic acid does to help treat blemishes.
I have been trying out two products that have salicylic acid, that I really like and now use whenever my skin breaks out. I have already bought backups of these products because I don't want to run out of them!

Burt's Bees Purifying Daily Cleanser, is a natual cleanser which leaves my skin feeling clean. It feels like it is washing away impurities and is gentle over any blemishes I have without over drying or irritating my skin.  The salicylic acid, which is sourced naturally from willow bark extract, penetrates pores to help reduce blemishes and prevent future breakouts. It has evening primrose and beet root extracts which also help troubled, blemish prone skin leaving the skin feeling clean. The consistency of this cleanser is runny, you don't need much and it foams up enough to feel it cleansing your face. I don't like the bottle because the product is so runny you have to be careful you don't waste product as it just runs out of the bottle.

Burt's Bees Pore Refining Scrub, I love a good scrub. As I have combination skin a scrub helps to control my oily t - zone. This  is a deep cleansing scrub that exfoliates dead skin cells and the salicylic acid refines the appearance of pores. It is a creamy texture with a small amount of grains that are gentle on the face and I definitely feel it cleaning my face. Jojoba Beads and a natural fruit acid complex, combine to provide a gentle exfoliation, smooth and clearer skin. Its a very gentle scrub and feels great over my blemishes and doesn't irritate my skin. This can be used daily and I usually do when I have lots of blemishes. The packaging is a tube with a clip lid, easy to use, and has a pleasant smell.

These two products are my go to for when I am breaking out or have blemishes. I find they really do help to reduce and treat my blemishes. They retail for $19.95aud each and are available at priceline or department stores.

Have you tried these products? What do you use to treat your blemishes?

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick review

I picked up a Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick a few weeks ago and am really enjoying using this lipstick. It comes in a sleek dark purple packaging, its very simple and lightweight. ( I think they changed the packaging recently to include a silver band in the middle of the tube)

The colour I got is 066 - Heather Shimmer, its a gorgeous brown with plum undertones.
The Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick has a great texture, it is so soft and glides on the lips really smoothly. Its very pigmented and gives a beautiful coverage.

There are over twenty shades to choose from - the colours are really pretty.

The lipstick is called Lasting Finish as it claims to last at least eight hours. For me it lasted about four to five hours and then I needed a touchup.

It doesn't dry the lips out which is good. Its not a moisturising lipstick but it does stay on nice and smooth.

If your looking for a longer lasting lipstick, that is smooth and soft, I'd definitely recommend the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick. They retail for $9.95 aud.

What lipstick are you liking at the moment?

A poem - Keep on going, don't quit !

This is a poem I found and love - so I wanted to share it with you all.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit

Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Don't give up though the pace seems slow,

You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems so far

So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,

It's when things seem worst that you must not quit!

What motivates you to keep on going? Do you have a favourite quote?

Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2011 - Loreal Paris Runway 4

The Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2011 continues. (You can check out yesterdays post and video if you missed it about the Loreal Paris Runway 1.)

Its been great watching the styles and designers showcase the most creative and gorgeous fashion.

Loreal Hair director Brad Ngata showcased casual elegance for hair at Loreal Paris Runway 4.
“The motivation was to create a wearable look that was clean, natural, and feminine essentially a style that could be translated at home” said Brad. The look is so easy, it literally is a hairstyle you can do after you shower, throw you hair back into a chic bun with minimal effort and maximum impact.

The steps taken to achieve this look are:
1. Apply hairspray to blow dryed hair in vertical stripes to create a rough finish.
2. Use a water spray to soften the hair, creating a slight wet look and encourage texture.
3. Use fingers to pull the hair straight back from the crown and pin sides of the hair at the nape of the
neck, creating a condensed messy bun. Secure with an elastic.
4. Apply a second layer of hairspray once again in vertical rows to set the look.

Here is a video of the Backstage at Runway 4.

Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2011 - Loreal Paris Runway 1

The Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2011 is now on. LMFF is an annual celebration of fashion, design, business and creative endeavour. It has become Australia’s premium consumer fashion event offering a diverse range of activities that embrace fashion, the creative arts, social interaction and commercial ideas.
The LMFF each year is one of the largest most prestigious events on the Australian fashion calendar.

I loved the two looks created for the L’OrĂ©al Paris Runway 1 by Hair Director Caterina Di Biase and her team of Session Stylists, first one which was all about the ponytail  - creating an extremely manicured tail of perfection. The second one was higly sculpted, showcasing mini - waves and soft disheveled ends.

Here is a short video of some of the action backstage.

Australis TLC Conditioning Mascara review

Mascara is one of my favourite makeup products. I wear it everyday, I love the way it makes my eyes stand out. I was sent the Australis TLC Conditioning mascara to try out and was very excited.

As you can see the packaging is gorgeous. Sleek, pink, glossy with black writing. A good size mascara, easy to carry around in your bag or if travelling.

There are two versions to this mascara the straight regular wand mascara and the curly wand mascara. I tried out the straight regular mascara and love the size of the brush, just right to get a good amount of product on the lashes.

The length of the wand is a good size and easy to manouver around and the brush is easy to get to all the lashes. There isn't much of a scent to this mascara which is great.

Australis say that this mascara is the Ultimate All-in-One formulation combining volume, length and definition. Containing nourishing vitamins, Vitamin E to protect lashes against damage caused by free radicals and environmental stresses and Vitamin B5 to moisturise hair against brittleness and breakage, strengthening and conditioning each lash one by one. Also enriched with silk powder, a protein containing 18 kinds of amino acids.

I love that it has vitamins in it to protect and nourish the lashes. Thats fantastic and what you want especially if you wear mascara everyday or often as your lashes need that nourishment to protect them from breaking or weakening.

I like the way this mascara applies, it does make my lashes look defined and a great look for the daytime. The colour I have is blackest black but the lashes don't look very black, instead a nice natural black. For the daytime this mascara works well, but for evening lashes I like something that is more black. There was no fallout and my lashes feel and look great all day. It is also easy to remove with a cleanser.

So if you are after a mascara that is great for the day, not too black, but a nice natural black defined lashes that will also get conditioned with vitamins, this mascara is great.

An affordable mascara the Australis TLC Conditioning mascara retails for $14.95 aud, and is available in department stores.

Do you use mascara everyday? What is your favourite mascara?

Herbal Essences smooth lovin - None Of Your Frizziness Serum review

I have been using the Herbal Essences smooth lovin none of your friziness serum and am really enjoying it. I got this a few months ago after seeing some reviews on it. I picked it up from the supermarket.

I have dry/damaged hair (from colouring and bleaching) and need something to keep my frizz away, give me shine and make my hair feel soft.

Herbal Essences say: This leave-in smoothing treatment is infused with anti-humidity technology to help you get rid of those pesky little frizzies. After just one use, you'll have a stunning smooth and sleek look with a totally touchable finish.

The packaging is sleek, easy to handle and great for travelling. It has a pump which is good and easy to get the product out. You only need a small amount of this product, it comes out like a oil, and you work it from your midlengths to the ends of your dry hair. I use this after I have my shower and my hair is dry.

This product is gorgeous on my hair. It really does get rid of my frizziness and my hair is so smooth and soft. It works by smoothing the hair cuticle and restores the hair's strength. I love it! The smell is devine, it smells like a sweet fruity scent and leaves your hair smelling beautiful.

You can buy the Herbal Essences smooth lovin  - None Of Your Frizziness Serum at the supermarket or priceline and retails for under $10.

Do you battle with dry or frizzy hair? Have you tried a treatment that works for you?

Need some encouragement?

When your feeling down or sad, you can do little things to make the day better. I have been feeling a little sad and worried lately about a few things, but things will work themselves out. Whatever your circumstances, time to think things through or make the right decision is the smartest way to deal with issues.

Give yourself time to think things through

Take time to do something fun like playing a sport, going out with friends.

Read a book

Pray to god, or talk to a friend you trust.

Watch a movie, something that will encourage and inspire you.

Do something nice for yourself, treat yourself! ( Shopping? !)

Everyday we are faced with challenges, but just know that you are awesome and that you have so much to offer. Make things happen for yourself, don't be afraid. Take the step and try, you will surprise yourself and learn so much!

What do you do to encourage yourself or someone you know?

Beauty tips on how to prevent aging skin

We all want younger looking skin, right?

No matter how old you are there are things you can put in place to help prevent your skin from aging quickly.

The signs of aging skin that are most common are wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, under eye puffiness, circles and sagginess.

Here are three tips that if applied everyday will help overtime to prevent your skin from aging :

1. Use sunscreen everyday - Staying out of the sun is the best way to avoid the sun and no matter what the weather is like or what season we are in - you must wear sunscreen. There are many day moisturisers that have SPF in them these are the ones to use. Over exposure to UVA or UVB rays will create skin damage and premature skin aging.

2. Use a cleanser and moisturiser - There are many cleansers that are mild and cater for all skin types. Use a cleanser instead of soap they are gentler and cleanse better than soap. Moisturisers will help keep your skin hydrated and nourished.

3. Drink water and eat well - Drinking water will keep your skin feeling smoother.Water washes all the toxins out of the body which will help keep the skin smooth. Eating fruit and vegetables is great to help keep you skin clear.

There are many anti aging products out there that can help prevent wrinkles and fine lines. Be sure to buy products that suit your skin type and check the ingredients to ensure that the product is actually good for you!

Are you trying to prevent aging? What do you do or use ?

Slow cooker recipe: Veggie Pasta soup

I am loving my slow cooker that I bought a few months ago. I have tried a new recipe recently, the Veggie Pasta soup and the whole family love it.

The ingredients I used are:

2 yellow squash, choppped
2 zucchini, sliced
1 package of frozen corn ( or you can use peas)
1 red capsicum chopped
1 can stewed or diced tomatoes
1 teaspoon of italian mixed herbs
2 teaspoons dried oregano
400ml of liquid beef stock
250g of pasta

I place all the ingredients in the slow cooker. Let it cook on low for 6-8hrs. About 30mins before it is finished I put the 250g of pasta in the slow cooker and thats it! Its so simple and you can use any vegetables that you like.

Do you have any simple dishes you like to cook?

Six Shopping Tips: How to shop for beauty products?

When you are shopping for beauty products, you will find  that there is so much to choose from that it can be overwhelming. I sometimes get asked where I shop?, how do I know what to buy? and how much I spend?.
Its a bit hard to answer those questions because there are so many factors that need to be considered. So here are my tips on how to shop for makeup and beauty products:

1. Do your homework - With technology being so advanced these days, you can find out a lot of information about most products. There are so many reviews on so many great sites. Google is my best friend when it comes to finding information about a product. You Tube is great as well. I have a You Tube channel  - DanniiBeauty - where I do product reviews and there are so many great beauty blogs. So if you want to know about a product before buying do your homework and find out what others think about the product through their reviews.

2. Be sure to look around - Looking around at all the different brands ensures that you choose the right product for you and not just buy the first thing you saw. For example at Priceline there are at least 10-12 different makeup brands. If your looking for a blush and you find one you like take it with you and compare it to the other brands alongside it. Test it out and see what it feels like and looks like. If buying skin products always look for products that will suit your skin type.

3. Sales - Most of the time (99%) I buy my beauty and makeup products when they are on sale. There is always a sale on somewhere whether that be at the supermarket, department store, beauty stores or online websites. I have a list of things I want to try or have read a great review and think it will suit me and then when I see it on sale I buy it. Of course there are times when I buy products at full price but it would be because I desperately need it like a cleanser.

4. Try something new - If your new to using makeup, or always stick to the same products, I'd encourage you to try something new. It definitely is great when you find a product that works really well and you stick to it, but sometimes there may be something better out there. Of course this would be for low end products as they are reasonably priced. For example if you like a certain lipstick colour in a certain brand, try looking for a similar colour but in a different brand. Or even go for a darker or lighter colour than you would normally buy - its a great way to try new things.

5. Samples - when buying high end products I always get samples first. If I am going to spend $80 on a moisturiser I want to know if it will work on my skin first before spending so much money. So I will get a sample first which usually will last about 5-7 days which is enough time to establish if it suits my skin and if it works well. Usually Myer or David Jones are great places to go and ask for samples at the counters.

6. Learn makeup techniques - If you want to know how to apply foundation or eyeshadow there are so many great resources to find this information. Myer or David Jones have makeup artists at there countere who will be able to show you how to apply your makeup. They are a great resource to ask questions. There are also some great makeup artists on You Tube that show you how to apply makeup.
